Why does my AC blow cigarette and outdoor smells into the house?
Outdoor smells and cigarette smoke enter living spaces because central HVAC systems pull air from outside or shared ductwork and blow it directly into rooms. This makes it impossible to escape unwanted odors whenever the heat or air conditioning turns on.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Calling HVAC technicians for advice
- 2Considering moving the condenser unit
- 3Asking about cleaning and sanitizing ductwork
- 4blocking the stinky vents in the bedroom
- 5Looking into makeup air solutions or controlling where the intake air comes from and how it is distributed.
