Why do freezeless outdoor faucets still freeze and burst?

Freezeless sillcocks rely on a slight outward pitch and gravity to drain remaining water after the valve is closed. When installed with an accidental backward slope toward the house, water stays trapped inside the pipe, causing it to freeze and burst behind finished walls.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

Even a slight backward pitch defeats the whole purpose of a freezeless silcock, the internal stem relies on gravity to drain. If it's behind finished walls, you're gambling with a burst pipe and a major drywall repair down the line.source ↗
