Why does my refrigerator ice maker fill tube keep freezing?
The water fill tube in the ice maker freezes solid repeatedly, forcing people to manually chip out the ice every couple of hours just to get the ice tray to fill. This is often driven by unserviceable heating elements where manufacturers suggest buying a whole new door instead of fixing the part.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1waiting until the furnace gets replaced rather than fixing the underlying pitch issue
- 2manually clearing out the ice with a pick
- 3wrapping an external heater around the water line
- 4replacing the entire refrigerator door
- 5cutting the tip of the fill tube at an angle to prevent droplets from sealing the opening
