How to protect luxury vinyl floors from a heavy treadmill

Heavy equipment like treadmills concentrate weight on their legs and rollers, which will dent luxury vinyl plank (LVP) floors over time. While thick rubber horse mats or PVC barriers prevent dents and scratches, these materials can discolor the vinyl. This leaves owners stuck between thin mats that fail to distribute the weight and thick rubber mats that stain the floor.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Placing a barrier between the floor and the rubber or PVC mat
  2. 2
Placing polycarbonate or tempered glass mats under the furniture
  3. 3
Putting anti-vibration pads under the wheels
  4. 4
    Using high heat mats
  5. 5
Relying on existing commercial tile flooring
  6. 6
Ensuring the floor is not made of combustible material
