Why do area rugs keep sliding on luxury vinyl plank flooring?

Luxury vinyl plank flooring interacts poorly with standard rug pads, causing rugs to wander as much as a foot every week despite trying multiple products. This constant shifting makes homeowners reluctant to spend more money on expensive pads that ultimately fail to keep the rugs in place.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    double sided tape
  2. 2
    slip mats
  3. 3
putting in a screw or two to prevent the base from sliding
  4. 4
having someone hold the ladder at the base while working
  5. 5
putting a piece of plywood under the ladder to spread weight and improve grip

Third one. Two have wandered a foot a week no matter what pad I use. Vinyl seems to be its own problem and I'm not spending another $200 to find out.source ↗
