My puppy swallowed a treat whole

Swallowing a large chew treat whole can cause a puppy to yelp and cry in pain as it goes down their throat. This leaves owners terrified of nasty diarrhea, dangerous intestinal obstructions, or even poisoning if the treat was found outside. The fear of these severe complications often drives people to induce vomiting, even if the dog acts completely normal immediately afterward.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
take the dog to the vet immediately
  2. 2
Calling an emergency vet for identification
  3. 3
Calling an animal poison control hotline
  4. 4
Inducing vomiting immediately as a precaution
  5. 5
Posting photos to pest control or veterinary forums for crowd-sourced identification
