How to fix peeling veneer on kitchen cabinets near the sink

Splashing water and a missing backsplash cause moisture to pool and the cabinet finish to peel. Trying to rub or wipe the damaged area can make the top layer come off further instead of fixing the problem.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
brushing on paint or silicone to block water intrusion
  2. 2
using quarter round or other trim sealed with silicone over the damaged MDF
  3. 3
Covering the damaged area with contact paper

Next to my sink on the right it's missing a backsplash and occasionally water can spray onto the surface, pooling at the bottom. Now the finish is peeling off in a few spots.source ↗
