How to cover the gap under kitchen cabinets

Large gaps measuring up to an inch wide between the floor and kitchen cabinets let in dust, spiderwebs, and insects while making countertops constantly dirty. Without baseboards to block these openings, homeowners are left trying to figure out how to seal them up.
