How to store a stiff hose without tangling
Stiff pressure washer and heavy-duty garden hoses naturally twist and kink, causing standard storage methods to fail. Hanging them on hooks looks messy, bins require complete untangling before every wash, and commercial winders often have drums too small that immediately kink the line. Dealing with this constant mess makes the actual washing process frustrating and drives people to consider just buying a less stiff hose entirely.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Coiling by hand and securing with zip ties or spring clamps
- 2Storing the hose in a bucket with a lid after it dries
- 3Buying a more flexible aftermarket hose
- 4Using the over-under coiling technique to prevent kinks
- 5Hanging the coiled hose on a wall hook
- 6Buying a new hose that isn't as stiff
- 7Switching to a retractable hose system
- 8Using a hose pot or freestanding reel with a wider basket
- 9Guiding the first few loops by hand when winding
