Can a 17 year old fly internationally without parent consent?
Many countries and airlines strictly require a notarized parental consent form or valid legal guardian documentation for minor travelers, and lacking this can completely block entry or boarding. Because obtaining signatures from estranged or uncooperative parents is often impossible, solo minor travelers are left stranded despite being legally independent in places like Canada.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1faking parental signatures on a consent letter
- 2Studying abroad to build residency in a region with open borders
- 3Waiting until becoming financially independent and mature enough to travel alone
- 4Traveling domestically within one's home country instead

“Probably not money for the most part but apparently I need a legitimate “REASON” for travelling. And if I get to travel, it will be my first time, I’ll have absolutely no idea about the local environment, places to stay at and more than any other reason, I don’t even have like a friend or somebody who lives in those countries so basically no guide and companion to be around”source ↗
“So i am 17 and i have a flight in 7 days to germany. I heard that you need a parental consent form the minute you land. This would be pretty straight forward but unfortunately i dont live with my parents and ive been alone for the past year since its legal in canada so obtaining a consent form is impossible.”source ↗

“My parents just won’t allow me to travel unless I have a “reason” for travelling 😭 + I don’t personally know anybody who lives in that country so I won’t have a companion, at least to have fun”source ↗
