Why does my water heater sensor trip from household fumes?
Flammable vapor sensors on water heaters detect airborne chemicals from sources like oil-based paint, primer, or nearby cat litter boxes. When exposed to these fumes, the sensor can trigger a shutdown or error, forcing you to replace it even though the unit itself is not damaged.
