Why do cats get the zoomies after pooping?

Cats experience a sudden burst of frantic energy and high-speed sprinting immediately after finishing business in the litter box. This sudden behavioral shift causes them to fling litter across the room and bolt through the house at top speed for several minutes.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Allowing the cat to run and expend energy naturally
  2. 2
Recognizing the behavior as normal feline euphoria

Every morning while I'm getting ready to go to the gym, and evening when I get home from work, she climbs into her litter box (oneisall auto box, it's kinda tall) and scratches around like one dose, does her business then almost frantically flings litter to cover as quickly as possible and once she's satisfied with the job bolts and flies a solid meter maybe 2 through the air, beelining for her mansion or starch mushroom at the top of the stairs and then continues with feral level zoomies for about 15 minutes. Has anyone else dealt with this?source ↗

My orange boy gets major cases of post-poop zoomies, sometimes his sister too. Don't worry, she's normal!source ↗
