HOA tore up my lawn and left it damaged

Community management and landscaping contractors often damage lawns through aggressive aeration or short-notice pesticide applications, leaving grass torn up and roots exposed. This unexpected damage ruins the yard's appearance and forces homeowners to spend their own time and money fixing the mess with seed and soil.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Checking community bylaws for rule violations
  2. 2
Keeping pets off the grass after chemical applications
  3. 3
Asking management for information and explanations
  4. 4
Applying Grub X once a year around early June to prevent and kill grubs
  5. 5
Stepping on ripped-up turf to lay it back down and planning to seed over damaged areas

“Got my yard aerated yesterday . Majority of the yard looks fine but man they really tore up some areas. I don’t think I’ve ever seen larger areas rip up like this before.”source ↗

“They basically just laid it back and stepped on it in spots . Plan to lay down grass seed after this rain moves through. Just wondering if these areas are toast?”source ↗

“You've got grubs my dude... It looks ripped up because the grubs chow down on the grass roots so it's essentially just floating making it easy to be pulled up.”source ↗
