Engine misfires and RPM surging when driving uphill
Persistent engine misfires under load often happen when a failing ignition component or restricted fuel delivery breaks down under heat and pressure. This prevents smooth acceleration at highway speeds and causes intermittent multiple misfire codes that clear out after the engine cools down.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1replacing fuel injectors
- 2replacing the MAF sensor
- 3scanning for diagnostic trouble codes
- 4replacing the spark plugs
- 5Replacing spark plugs, wires, and coil packs
- 6Disconnecting the battery to clear the ECM
- 7Checking and cleaning grounds
- 8Using an OBD reader to monitor sensors
- 9Replacing the crank position sensor
- 10swapping fuel injectors between cylinders
- 11replacing intake gaskets
- 12checking coolant levels
- 13changing coil packs and spark plugs
- 14Replacing spark plugs manually
- 15Swapping coil packs and fuel injectors to test components
- 16Performing diagnostic tests like compression and leak down tests
- 17Used a radiator combustion test kit
- 18Bought a manual on Rock Auto and replaced both new heads
- 19Took old heads to a local shop for inspection
- 20Double checked firing order and spark plug gap
- 21Erasing trouble codes
