Why do I need a second ground rod?

Electrical upgrades and meter work often prompt the recommendation to add a second ground rod, though homeowners frequently wonder about the necessity. Meanwhile, physical installation hurdles like flat-mounted ground bars with screws too short to accommodate a vertical wire pass-through can prevent completing the connection safely.

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

the ground bar is mounted flat against the bottom, so the ground wire can't pass through it.source ↗

I tried removing the screw and flipping it vertical, so the wire can pass through, but the included screw isn't long enough for that.source ↗
