How to stop kitten from attacking my hair

Kittens attack human hair because they mistake swinging hair or bangs for moving prey. This behavior can lead to painful scratches on the face and head, disrupting bonding and causing stress for everyone in the household.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Tie up hair
  2. 2
Pull back bangs with hair clips
  3. 3
Play with the kitten to distract them
  4. 4
    Wear a bonnet
  5. 5
    Using baby gates
  6. 6
Administering gabapentin to sedate the cat
  7. 7
scolding the cat and saying no
  8. 8
ignoring the cat and changing rooms
  9. 9
closing the cat inside a room for 10 minutes until it calms down
  10. 10
playing with the cat in multiple daily sessions using rods, plushies, and balls
  11. 11
spoiling them with wet food, toys, and time
  12. 12
purchasing dry food and letting them have something hard to bite
  13. 13
mixing dry food with wet food
