Why are default e-commerce store analytics missing key data?

Default store dashboards often fail to populate crucial metrics like customer lifetime value, visitor segments, and product weights, forcing merchants to troubleshoot invisible data gaps. This lack of reliable reporting stops store owners from accurately tracking performance or resolving feed sync errors without manual workarounds.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Building custom toolsets piece by piece
  2. 2
Using separate platforms like Shopify for better built-in analytics
  3. 3
Exporting data to external sheets or dashboards
  4. 4
Switching from manually designed lookbooks to automated catalog generators linked directly to spreadsheets
  5. 5
Focusing high aesthetics on store pages and keeping catalogs strictly functional and accurate
  6. 6
    Reconciling data manually
  7. 7
    Using a dashboard
  8. 8
    Keeping each platform separate

By the time we printed it, 5 prices had changed and one item was out of stock. We spent the next 6 months apologizing to customers who tried to order the discontinued item.source ↗

It looks good. It takes about ten seconds to populate after selecting a custom date from a previous month. I've no data in most viewed pages, most added cart, visitors by device and customers segments or lifetime value. In the date picker the month and year don't quite fit and end up scrollable.source ↗

I have custom products on Shopify and my GMC never picks up the item weight and says its missing despite being set in Shopify.source ↗

I’m trying to understand how ecommerce teams get a reliable weekly view of performance when the data sits across Shopify, ad platforms, and spreadsheets.source ↗
