Why does my clothes dryer sound like a loud vacuum?

A loud vacuum-like noise during operation is usually caused by a failing idler pulley or drum support wheel. This racket makes the appliance disruptive to run and leaves you guessing whether a part is about to fail completely.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Taking apart the unit, pulling the drum, and spinning the wheels and pulley by hand to check for issues.
