Why is my oil boiler running constantly in warm weather?
Older oil boilers keep water hot around the clock to provide domestic hot water or stay ready for heating, which causes them to cycle continuously even during warm weather. This wastes massive amounts of fuel and drives up oil consumption when home heating is not even needed.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Turning the boiler off manually during warmer months
- 2Installing an electric water heater to supplement or handle domestic hot water
- 3turn the boiler off manually
- 4remove the thermostat from the wall
- 5remove the thermostat wires from the relay
