Why does my new ice maker only fill with water once?

The water fill tube freezes or the heating element burns out, causing the fill tube to freeze and disintegrate. This prevents the ice maker from refilling during subsequent cycles after the initial test.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
unplugging the ice maker and plugging it back in
  2. 2
    pressing the reset button
  3. 3
turning the unit off and on
  4. 4
    unplugging the refrigerator
  5. 5
Disassemble the unit to inspect heating elements and fill valves
  6. 6
Isolate the water line and manually test if the valve turns on
  7. 7
Replacing the fill valve, fill tube, fill tube heater, and main control board

I installed it and pressed the test button, it did its cycle and filled up with water then dumped that and never filled back up water.source ↗

I just don’t know what else to try at this point aside from order another ice maker and try again.source ↗

My ice maker hasn’t been working at all for a couple months now and i just now started to disassemble to get an idea of what was going on.source ↗

I planned on replacing the secondary fill value but then noticed this heating element showing burn marks on the ice maker itself and the top of the fridge.source ↗
