How to remove a stuck fixture without breaking it
There are absolutely zero online directions for removing these fixtures, leaving people stalled when a ring is siliconed in and will not budge. While the fixtures ultimately release with quite a bit of force, people avoid hitting them because they do not want to crack the sink or ceiling.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1using a plastic putty knife or spackle knife for leverage
- 2practicing on a replacement unit beforehand
- 3applying firm force to overcome spring clips
- 4Applying caulking removal spray, WD-40, acetone, or denatured alcohol to soak and dissolve the seal.
- 5Using tin snips to cut the fixture and pry it apart from a single edge.
- 6Gripping the fixture with a C-clamp or large channel locks to twist it back and forth.
- 7Building a custom puller with heavy plywood and threaded rod to apply slow, even pressure.
- 8Leaving the stuck hardware in place and buying a replacement unit that is compatible with it.
