Why is the cash drawer always off at closing?

Cash drawers rarely match perfectly at the end of a shift, with daily discrepancies ranging from two dollars to a hundred. While employee theft is a common cause, these mismatches stem even more frequently from simple addition mistakes, poor staff training, and unnecessarily complicated closing procedures.
