Why do brand-new lawnmower blades cut so roughly?
Brand-new mower blades often leave rough cuts right from the start because they may not come fully sharpened out of the box. Removing and reinstalling the blades to inspect, sharpen, or replace them can also feel tricky and unsafe for people who have never done it before.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Sharpening the factory blade with an angle grinder or a metal file to get a sharper edge.
- 2Taking the mower blades to a local hardware store or shop for sharpening
- 3Asking a neighbor or friend for help
- 4Using an angle grinder with a flap disc or filing the blade by hand while attached
