How do you string an old weed whacker?
Older trimmer models lack modern speed-feed mechanisms, forcing users to wrestle with an insanely frustrating, MacGyver-like reloading process. Because instructions and online tutorials only cover newer versions, people are left stranded with no clear guide on how to reload the string.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1Searching YouTube and Google for tutorials
- 2Asking ChatGPT for instructions
- 3Asking for model-specific help on online forums
- 4Buying trimmer brands with easier loading systems like Stihl, Echo, RedMax, or Milwaukee
- 5Using trimmers with power loader functions like Ego
- 6Replacing the trimmer head with a universal bump-feed head or looking into models that take string cartridges
