Why do unfinished work tasks keep lingering in my brain?

Unfinished tasks and multiple pending deadlines linger mentally and psychologically torment you while you are trying to focus on something else. This mental residue causes overwhelm and makes it difficult to successfully switch between multiple jobs.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Make a list of priorities and estimated time, blocking calendar time for tasks, breaks, and email checks.
  2. 2
Make a daily task list, focus only on that day, and start with the smallest task to mark it off completely before moving to larger tasks.

I can do one given task long hours but if there are multiple pending deadlines its like it takes up a spot in my brain.source ↗

Part of it is that it’s not that easy as the old tasks stil psychologically torments me when it’s not complete and I’m onto the next task. Like it lingers in the back of the mind.source ↗
