Why does my leaf blower start for 3 seconds and die?

Small engines and leaf blowers sometimes start briefly for a few seconds before turning off, and can produce smoke when they shut down. Other times, equipment may sit unused for a few days without starting at all, or only fire up on the second attempt after multiple tries.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Checking the fuel mix
  2. 2
    Checking fuel lines for tears
  3. 3
Inspecting fuel lines inside the tank for breaks
  4. 4
Cycling the key to the 'on' position a few times before cranking to rebuild fuel pressure.

“I have this blower that recently started to fail on me and it eventually gave out after a while left alone and starting it up it only starts for like 3 seconds and then turns off but when it does there’s like smoke coming out”source ↗
