Why do students have to sit in the testing room after finishing early?

Schools enforce mandatory waiting periods where students must remain seated in silence until the entire testing block ends. This leaves early finishers trapped for hours with nothing to do except read a paper book or rest their head, unable to leave the room.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
    Reading physical books
  2. 2
Putting their head down to sleep
  3. 3
Encouraging students to take more time and double-check their work to avoid finishing early

They’re stuck. At our school, once the test is handed in, they’re allowed to read or put their head down and sleep.source ↗

Currently they are being allowed to read a paper book only. They cannot put their head down or leave until the four hour block is donesource ↗
