Why does my child switch from crying to laughing so fast?

Young children experience overwhelming, poorly regulated big emotions that cause them to flip instantly between extreme states like crying and hysterical laughter, particularly when they are overtired. This sudden emotional volatility can leave parents feeling confused, unsettled, and unsure how to respond.

I have no idea why she does this but like the title says, my 4 year old daughter flips from crying to insane laughter on a dime.source ↗

It was funny at first, but now it’s starting to freak me out.source ↗

Yes my newly turned 5 year old does this. Not all the time but it seems like she has really big emotions and they’re all over the place.source ↗
