How to get dried paint off plastic pipes
Removing paint and textured residue from old plastic piping is necessary to prepare the surface for priming and solvent welding. Without a clean section of pipe, you cannot properly prime and glue the joints together.
What people tried
Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.
- 1using 220 sandpaper
- 2using acetone
- 3using paint thinner
- 4wrapping a wet towel around it to soften the residue
- 5scraping the paint off and using plumbers sand cloth
- 6Using a highlighter marker on the ink.
