How do you know when you're done having kids?

Deciding when to stop having children usually comes down to hard limits on finances, physical exhaustion from difficult pregnancies, and a lack of energy to keep up with daily parenting. Pushing past these physical and financial boundaries leaves parents feeling depleted, which drives them to close the door on growing their family further.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
doing the math on household finances and college costs
  2. 2
waiting until kids are older and out of the diaper stage to evaluate freedom
  3. 3
getting a vasectomy or undergoing other permanent birth control
  4. 4
focusing on the existing children and personal health
  5. 5
Waiting until the older child reaches a certain age like 3 or school age before trying
  6. 6
Starting early assuming it will take a long time to conceive
