Why can't I figure out my newborn's cues?

Newborns rapidly cycle between insatiable hunger, painful gas, and extreme overtiredness without establishing a predictable rhythm, leaving parents unable to decode what they need. This constant guessing game traps families in endless cycles of crying and failed sleep attempts, making it impossible to rest, eat, or leave the house.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Brute force trying everything until something clicks
  2. 2
Having someone over to watch the baby for 1-2 hours so the parent can sleep, eat, or go for a walk
  3. 3
Using a wrap carrier and walking around to help the baby sleep
  4. 4
Pausing frequently during feedings to burp the baby
  5. 5
Offering a pacifier or dummy after nursing
  6. 6
    Gas drops
  7. 7
    Tummy massage
  8. 8
    Bicycle kicks
  9. 9
    Frequent burps
  10. 10
    Bath time
  11. 11
    Holding the baby while asleep
