Buyer entered the wrong shipping address after checkout

When a buyer sends a message to update an old address after completing a purchase, sellers are forced to either cancel and refund the order or risk shipping items to a location where the customer no longer lives. This leaves sellers without a clear automated fix, making them question whether they have to manually handle cancellations or risk lost inventory.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Cancel the order, issue a refund, and ask the buyer to update their address and reorder.
  2. 2
Manually editing and changing each customer's default address through the customer profile in the admin panel.

It is causing problems wherein we will create an Exchange Order for a Customer but the items are sent to their old address where they no longer live.source ↗

Is there a way to reverse this change or are we just stuck with this as the new modus operandi?source ↗

Hi all - I have a buyer that messaged they accidentally checked out with an old shipping address.source ↗

Would the best course of action be to cancel the sale, refund and tell them they can purchase with the correct address.source ↗
