Why does every software update make things slower and harder to find?

Software updates often introduce sluggish interfaces and rearranged menus that force people to constantly reload pages, regenerate reports, and click through endless menus just to find basic features. This added friction wastes valuable time during the workday and makes routine client work take significantly longer.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Clearing browser cookies when the platform gets too slow
  2. 2
    Reporting bugs to the developers
  3. 3
Using desktop versions of software when available instead of web-based editions
  4. 4
Clicking the down arrow in the top right to view actual amounts
  5. 5
Changing the home page widget to Total Sales Breakdown
  6. 6
Changing bookmarks to go straight to the Analytics page instead of the home tab
  7. 7
Opening random tabs and settings to search for moved features
  8. 8
Contacting support or complaining publicly to prompt reversions
  9. 9
Switching to older desktop versions with data conversion fees
  10. 10
    Turning off built-in AI features
  11. 11
Using cloud hosting services like QBox for desktop files
  12. 12
Migrating to alternative accounting platforms like Zoho Books
  13. 13
Using browser extensions like RightTool to keep bookmarks and features consistent
  14. 14
Switching to alternative software like Xero or desktop editions
  15. 15
Walking away from the computer for the day out of frustration
  16. 16
Switching to alternative platforms like Xero
  17. 17
Rebuilding custom report templates and parameters from scratch
  18. 18
Exporting data to CSV files and manually manipulating them in Excel
  19. 19
jump through some hoops to find legacy quotes
  20. 20

It's getting to the point where it's adding time to the docket with the amount of reloading pages/regenerating reports I have to do.source ↗

Why... why change the UI ever 6 months. Now I have to go through and repeatedly every single shortcut and widget I once had dialed in and stumble my way through whatever this nightmare is.source ↗

I swear every time they change the platform I want to scream. They're making me crazy.source ↗

The new view is utterly useless. All of my templates are set up for classic view. I don't like 'modern' view, it takes more time, the formatting is different and it's going to cost me time.source ↗

I hate how the total sales on the home screen rounds up to the nearest $k. You now need to click the down arrow in the top right to see your actual $ amount. For a small store, there is a big difference between a $1550 and a $2450 day!source ↗

Now I'm wasting time clicking through menus trying to find my goddamn chart of accounts.source ↗

Uploading photos to listing takes extra clicks now. I have to upload to files now and then select to upload to listing. Adding tags is now extra clicks. Scheduling the release was also recently updated and adds an extra click.source ↗

i swear every inventory update now somehow turns into a scavenger hunt through the admin,, half the frustration isn’t even the task anymore, it’s just trying to figure out where Shopify moved everything this week.source ↗

it's just way more complicated to use modern view. Everything is more effort, less intuitive. It's not without its merits but now I'm going to have to rebuild every single report I usesource ↗

Extra drop down menus that add zero function and show me down. There's a loading time when i had line items that is painfully slow.source ↗

Now nothing is available on the main screen. I used to be able to make journal entry in 2 clicks, now 3 clicks and the JE menu goes away each time so I repeat 3 clicks to make another JEsource ↗

My frustration with online and now modern view is that ill open a report, customize date ranges, columns, and filters. Click on a transaction to open it. When I close the transaction - sometimes it will go back to my customized report - but other times it glitches and goes back to the default view.source ↗

The new interface is the worst piece of garbage and so slow. Client work is taking longer and my time in my office has become more unfulfilling.source ↗

I can't see anything on my screen anymore, there are so many popups and filter ups that I'm working on a space the size of a post-it note. - I'm paying for this crap, I don't need MORE adds or more "helpful suggestions"...source ↗

When did hubspot remove "quotes"?source ↗

I went to make one and now it's of course tied to an upgrade with AI but they say you can still do legacy quotes if you jump through some hoops which I didn't have the patience to read.source ↗
