Why is my fridge water coming out of the ice maker?

The refrigerator is incorrectly routing water into the ice maker tray instead of the water dispenser. This causes the tray to overfill and spill water out of the ice chute, leading to constant dripping and annoying puddles in the exterior tray.

“After a couple minutes of holding the button, finally water did start coming out, however it was from the ice dispenser, not the water dispenser.”source ↗

“Upon investigating, it looks like the ice try in the ice maker is full of water, so I'm guessing what's going on is that for some reason, the water dispenser is dispensing the water into the ice maker instead.”source ↗
