What is a good returning customer rate for ecommerce?

A healthy repeat purchase rate is difficult to pin down because benchmarks vary wildly across different niches. This lack of clear standards makes it hard for store owners to know if they are retaining customers successfully without constantly relying on discounts.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Comparing rates internally over time or looking at specific product lines.
  2. 2
Providing superior customer service and excellent results
  3. 3
Offering physical club loyalty cards after a set number of visits
  4. 4
Keeping post-purchase communication useful rather than spammy

Getting someone to place their first order is one thing. Getting them to come back without constantly relying on discounts is another.source ↗
