Why does my car suddenly slam on the brakes by itself?

Faulty camera warnings can trigger sudden, unprompted emergency braking in traffic, turning the brake pedal completely stiff and forcing drivers to restart the engine. This terrifying glitch risks severe rear-end collisions and leaves motorists stranded without normal vehicle control.

What people tried

Every workaround mentioned in the threads below. We haven’t tested any of them — and nobody here is claiming they worked.

  1. 1
Shutting the engine off and restarting it to restore normal driving function
  2. 2
Planning to take the vehicle to a dealership for diagnostic scans and checking for technical service bulletins
  3. 3
Getting a flatbed tow truck to transport the vehicle

An EyeSight warning suddenly came up that I believe said “No Camera View.” About a second later, the brakes suddenly brought the car to a complete stop.source ↗

There was traffic behind me and the car behind me was following pretty closely, so this was really scary because I could have been rear-ended.source ↗

After the car stopped, it wouldn’t move normally and another message came up telling us to put the car in Park and restart the engine.source ↗

the brake pedal went stiff as a brick immediately. Like, he literally had to stand on the pedal with all his weight just to keep from crashing and get it to stopsource ↗
